Regular datacenters are where the cloud resides. They hold your photos, streaming services, cloud backups, etc. They are as old as the internet and were of little worry to communities, as they were just there, in the background.
AI Hyperscale data centers are a specialized type of data center that houses compute-intense equipment to support Artificial Intelligence (AI). These large structures take up hundreds of acres and can use about the same amount of electricity as half of Hoover Dam or one commercial nuclear reactor.

Georgia offers a set of tax breaks, that cost the state $2.5 Billion in 2026 alone.
Economic Development Authorities and the GA Chamber of Commerce are asking them to come.

Currently, the expansion of gas pipelines to serve the gas turbines to power the data centers - is going to be passed to consumers.
Most data center deals are made between the data center company and the county or city via their local economic development authority. These deals are usually made under “Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)” - and data center companies claim that everything including power, water, taxes, jobs, etc are a “trade secret.”
